Landscape Planning: What It's All About

Landscape planning is one of the most important procedures in achieving a successful landscape. Just like in major projects, the planning stage in landscaping can help you come up with a great landscape that will suit everything you had in mind.

Architects say that landscape planning is a very important stage in the overall process because it sets the direction of the project. Without proper and careful planning, your landscape can bring you more problems and can even waste your time and property.

Planning for landscapes

In landscape planning, every little thing matters. This is because this will set the basic foundation of the project. The first thing that you need to pay attention to in planning for landscape is the designing stage. This process involves preparation and measuring the plot meant for landscaping. When measuring the plot, many people may find it quite difficult because they need to get accurate measurements. Since exact or accurate measurement is crucial, people cannot afford to commit mistake on it.

To avoid committing mistakes, make every measuring process easy. To start with, get a copy of plot map from your house's developer or builder. You may also get this from the local land records office so you won't be mistaken. To double-check the information from the plot map, try using a scale. Once you are sure that you have the accurate measurements, fit the entire landscape on sheet of paper and starts working with other sides of the property including the front and backyard as well as other permanent aspects of the house including decks, sidewalks, and driveways.

Once you have all these information, you can proceed in creating a landscape template. Now that you have your template, make sure that you have several copies of it. This is to ensure that you will have spare copies of the template when you are not satisfied with your initial plan.

After the designing stage, which is more on getting accurate measurements, it's now time to focus on the designing proper. Of course, it is only common to have a few landscape ideas in mind and you would want to incorporate these right away. But, it is best not to be impulsive in using your ideas because it may ruin the entire plan. The best thing to do is to check if your idea is doable. You can do this by having an objective site analysis.

Here, you don’t only see the glitches in the plan but can also give you better ideas for your landscape. In during site analysis, you will have an idea which types of plants that you should use to be unique and other possibilities that would best work on your space. To get the best design, try to incorporate as many ideas as you can for as long as they complement each other.

After this, you can now proceed to the theme and styles that you want for your landscape design which can be English or Victorian and formal or informal.

The next stage in landscape planning would be the Master Plan. Here, a bubble graph is used to identify different areas in a general point of view. Once you have your "bubbles" in their right positions, you can now add the elements you want for each space providing that they would complement each other.

Doing this can help you visualize the initial outcome of your landscape.
